| Profile
Cathy trained at both the Queens Rd College Of Art and Design in Bristol and Bath City College. Having always led a very artistic and creative life she was introduced to sculpture by accident at an Open Studios day seven years ago. A handful of clay was available to experiment with and her life changed from that moment! She immediately bought her first slab of clay and has been sculpting virtually every day since from her home in Chewton Mendip in Somerset . |

Artist’s Statement I am interested in the beauty of the female form. Its patterns and shapes intrigue and appeal to me. My aim is to simplify these to emphasise the tactile and curvaceous. To this end I try to follow the natural rhythm and lines of the subject. My work is often considered serene – in contrast to how I often appear! Sculpture is always a frustrating struggle to achieve the end result that I desire. The thrill of completion is like a drug and then I can't wait to start the next piece. I work in clay while my castings are mainly of iron resin, which I love due to its striking depth of finish. |
